Summary/Abstract: Recently, along with ecology, awareness of ecology has become increasingly important. Research and scientific and artistic works that focus on the relationship between nature, human and culture contribute to the development of awareness by providing a better understanding of the subject. In the face of ecological problems, cinema has coined the concept of ecocinema, bringing discussions on the subject to the screen from the perspective of ecocriticism. This study deals with the ecological folkloric elements of Turkish folk culture, the connection with nature, agricultural practices, and a sustainable lifestyle in Semih Kaplanoğlu’s 2017 dystopian film “Grain”. In the film, the relationship between nature and humans and the social dynamics in terms of cultural practices are examined from an interdisciplinary perspective through ecocritical theory and content analysis. In the context of folklore, from an ecocritical perspective, the film is evaluated through content analysis method, content such as story structure, visual metaphors, music, color palette, through elements such as trees, water and fire in Turkish culture. Agriculture is treated as part of the ecosystem in the film and represents a life in harmony with nature. On the other hand, it emphasizes the sustainability of traditional methods against the environmental problems caused by modern industrial agriculture. The importance of soil, trees, water and seeds and their balance in the ecosystem are also visually depicted in the film. The connection with the soil is explained in terms of ecological balance and sustainability. The film highlights the main character’s work in a wheat field and explores the theme of agriculture as a part of nature. It conveys the importance of using traditional seeds and ecological sensitivity through traditional methods. The film also criticizes ecological problems, emphasizing the environmental effects of chemical fertilizers and the spread of genetically modified seeds. The film attempts to balance the relationship between humans and nature by combining ecological and cultural elements. It demonstrates that social life has not only an ecological texture but also a social and cultural one.
