Summary/Abstract: The similarity of themes and motifs in Turkish folk tales can also be seen in Iranian folk tales. In this study, the Turkish folk tale Sır Saklamayan Padişah Kızı (The Sultan’s Daughter Who Doesn’t Keep a Secret) and the Iranian tales Mehrinnegar and Sultan Mar are compared and evaluated using the text-based analysis method. The textual analysis of these folk tales in terms of motif, language, style, and culture is carried out by comparing Turkish and Iranian folk tales, especially by examining the motif of changing shape (entering the snake’s body) in the folk tales of Sır Saklamayan Padişah Kızı and Mehrinnegar and Sultan Mar. It can be seen that the plot, heroes, motifs, themes, and supernatural phenomena are very similar. The shape-shifting motif, which is included in the motif index of the tales, is included in both tales in this study through the snake animal. Some variants/versions of the tale of Mehrinnegar and Sultan Mar, collected from the source person who stated that he heard the Iranian folk tale told in the Khorasan region from his mother, were found in several sources. In addition to presenting another version of the tale, this study is important in terms of presenting and evaluating the motif of transforming into the serpent/snake, which is not as common as turning into a bird or deer, as a reflection of a celestial archetype in Turkish and Iranian culture.
