Summary/Abstract: Petru Rareș, the illegitimate son of Stephen the Great, was one of the great Romanian rulers who contributed with the founders to the monasteries of Holy Mount Athos. His most important foundation was the Caracalu Monastery. Thus he founded the Church, the port, the monks' cells, the defense tower. He also founded the defense tower of the Saint Paul Monastery and made important monetary donations to the Constamonitu and Esfigmenu Monasteries.
