Summary/Abstract: Through his internal and foreign policies and his achievements despite his short reign, Neagoe Basarab is considered one of the most important rulers of the Middle Ages. The fact that he was the holy son of the first metropolitan of Wallachia, the Patriarch Nifon, was of great importance for his administrative and cultural reformes.Neagoe Basarab was a peaceful and pious ruler. The monasteries he founded and the fact he had Nifon canonized at the Curtea de Arges are proof of that (1517).
