Summary/Abstract: Aim: This study is an evaluation of the employment effectiveness of business start-up subsidies financed by the Labour Fund in the long-term and intended for the unemployed, using the example of beneficiaries from the Subcarpathian Voivodeship in 2015-2022. Methodology: The study presented a systematic literature review, involving a wide range of domestic and foreign literature on the subject and selecting those with high quality, originality, and timeliness. The desk research method and empirical data from the Central Register and Information on Economic Activity (covering the period 2015-2024) and the Public Assistance Data Sharing System (from the period 2015-2022) were used. Results: The analysis provided information on its employment effectiveness after three, four, five, six, and even seven years since the end of the unemployed persons' participation in it. The study has revealed that self-employment, as a form of vocational activation, is not as effective in the long term as the data presented by the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy suggests. Implications and recommendations: Based on the results obtained, it seems reasonable to correct the rules for granting start-up subsidies to the unemployed, e.g., those about the length of the required duration of the enterprise. There is a need to continue the research in order to expand the study group to include enterprises created as a result of the assistance provided in other provinces, analyse sources of funding other than the Labour Fund, as well as the structure of beneficiaries and information on the employment efficiency of subsidies in individual sectors of the economy. Originality/value: The resulting study fills the gap in the literature regarding the lack of information on the level of the employment efficiency of beneficiaries of the form of assistance studied over a period longer than 24 months.
