Summary/Abstract: The crime novel is nowadays an extremely popular genre both in Poland and around the world. It often describes an authentically existing place, which – next to the detective and the criminal – becomes her equal component. The article, referring to the global phenomenon of the crime novel and the role that urban space plays in this type of literature, presents the concept of a series of classes in Polish as a foreign language at a minimum B2 level based on the excerpt Only the Dead Never Lie by Katarzyna Bonda, the action of which takes place in Katowice. The concept of these classes was planned in accordance with the principles of teaching receptive actions in terms of tasks, developed by Iwona Janowska. The aim of the article is therefore to show a crime novel as a source of knowledge about the place of residence for a foreign student, for whom working with this type of text is not only an opportunity to learn Polish as a foreign language, but also to get to know the city in which they happened to live.
