Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present how the segmentation of the text, the selection of the translation units and the achievement of a certain communicative result are related to each other. The material for analysis was taken the novel by B. Akunin All the World’s a Stage and its translation into Polish, created by Olga Moranska Świat jest teatrem. The analysis takes into account the basic levels of translation, i.e. it concerns translation at the level of phonemes/graphemes, morphemes and words. It based on the units atypical for the analysis of the above levels, such as theatrical pseudonyms and elements reflecting cases of a foreigner's accent. The analysis presented in the article proves the importance of reflecting in the translation text all the details that affect the transfer of meaning with all accompanying associations and the perception of the translated text by representatives of another culture.
