Summary/Abstract: The beginnings of Michelsdorf (Michałów) are inextricably linked with the Mennonite colonists, most of them Amish, who responded to prince Adam Jerzy Czartoryski’s invitation. It was difficult for them to keep the terms of the contract both because of the political turbulences at the end of the 18th century and the conditions which were unfavourable for working the land and running a farm. The first of the group gave up as early as in the years 1813-1815. A more considerable was the colonists’ outflow to Wolyn in the years 1820-1822. The rest left the village after the November Uprising.
