Statistical Aspects Of Sustainable Development –Policies, Methodology, And Indicators

Summary/Abstract: The core of the concept of sustainable development is ensuring a life of dignity and well-being for all people through economic prosperity, peaceful societies, social inclusion, and environmental responsibility. In order to assess the impact of actions to achieve the goals set out in the programme documents, it is necessary to use indicators that cover the economic, social and environmental aspects of sustainable development. The research aims to present the statistical aspects of sustainable development by clarifying the methodology and meas-urement indicators used in the EU. In retrospect, the main policy decisions of the UN and the EU, which have formulated sustainable development objectives are discussed. The systems of indicators for assessing progress in the EU are presented.
