Summary/Abstract: The article raises issues related to building a positive self-image by creating a supportive educational environment that enables the implementation of various needs of students at a younger school age. Pedagogical practice is conducive to reflection on the creation of educational situations that support the formation of adequate self-esteem through the student’s individual research activity, independence and taking over responsibility for the learning process. In this way, students develop a wide variety of competences. The implemented and described year-long project “Gościnne czytanie” (hospitable reading) is an example of the activity inspired by the assump-tions of educational action research, enabling conscious and reflective work on children’s language competence
