Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to demonstrate exactly – by means of repeatedly analyzed examples concerning names of animals – inaccuracies in the biblical translation. For this purpose, I compared 13 Bible translations (eight into Polish and five into Czech), focusing on chosen sections of the First Book of Kings (1 Kings 4:23 / 1 Kings 5:3). Taking into account these two verses of the Bible describing the same situational context, I discuss the main lexical differences concerning Czech and Polish translations of the Bible, both intra- and interlingual ones. I concentrate on the key issues of translation studies including the problem of semantic dominant as well as hyponymy and hyperonymy of lexemes that appear in the translations analyzed.
