Summary/Abstract: This paper was created as a result of an aspiration to further approximate common characteristics of the genres of epic and novel. Certain parallels are established between the historical facts that the author included in his text and what is the product of his cultural heritage or fiction, both folklore and ancient. Following this, the paper offers an insight into the basic meanings of the dragon and eagle symbols used, since this is of great importance for the interpretation of the content of the epic. We strived to show certain differences between belligerent parties that could have been the basis for the conflict, such as ethnic, religious and cultural differences. Throughout the paper, most attention is devoted to the main character of the epic, Muhammad, around whom the backbone of all events is constructed. In addition to the literary aspects of this paper, attention is also paid to the issues of language and the use of its potential, with special reference to the stylistic figures that represent the bearers of the author's expression in Boj zmaja sa orlovi. Certain segments of the epic were additionally separated and processed minutely for the sake of a more vivid presentation of all literary values that characterize the epic. The final section of the paper emphasizes the importance of further analysis of Boj zmaja sa orlovi, and, in general, of the work of Jovan Rajic as one of the most prominent representatives of the Baroque era in Serbian literature.
