Summary/Abstract: Recent decades have been characterized by intensive research into the structure and function of the fetal brain. We have learned many new facts about the amazing power of the fetal brain. Thanks mainly to 3D and 4D sonography we are now able to visualize and analyze many functional activities of the unborn baby. Surprisingly, more than 90% of brain functions in adults originate in the fetal period. Our group was a true pioneer in this new field of neuroscience and we present most of our original results in this review article.
