Summary/Abstract: An aspect of the modernization of Romania in the 19th century represented by the systematization of the territory and settlements, an operation carried out after 1831 as a result of the regulatory legislation, which was possible thanks to the projects in the hydrotechnical field. The present research captures a particular aspect of modernization through the systematization of the territory and refers to the hydrotechnical works executed between 1780 and 1885 that had the effect of modifying, channelizing, establishing or disappearing some water courses from the Dâmboviţa - Argeş interfluve, in upstream of Bucharest. The hydrotechnical works executed then caused important changes in the landscape, influencing the systematization of the rural settlements in the area and consequently their development.
