Summary/Abstract: Joanna Pigulak’s book Gra w film. Z zagadnień relacjimiędzy filmem i grami wideo [The Game of Film: On the Re-lationship Between Film and Video Games] (2022) is an in-terdisciplinary study of the relationship between film andvideo games. The author focuses primarily on the analysisof film means of expression used in games and describesand interprets their functioning in the interactive mediumof video games. She uses both the theoretical backgroundand analytical methods developed in film studies and gamestudies, which fits into the model of culturally orientedmedia studies. Especially noteworthy are her analyses andinterpretations of films and games created after 2003, i.e.,with the spread of the seventh- and eighth-generationconsoles. They are accompanied by theoretical consider-ations referring to key categories of knowledge about au-diovisual media, such as remediation, convergence, inter-and transmediality, immersion, as well as a presentationof particular issues such as point of view, mise-en-scène,framing, and transmedia narratives.
