Summary/Abstract: The grounds for the present study reside in the assumption that both proverbs and anthroponyms are culturally embedded. In fact, they represent the very spirit of the people who created them. One has to be part of the universe that led to the birth of a proverb in order to fully grasp its meaning. The same holds true for the name. For the connoisseur, a person's name stands for a community and an age, a rural environment or a more elevated one, etc. Therefore, we ask ourselves which better exponents does a culture have? Our analysis focuses on the extraordinary ability of anthroponyms found in proverbs to enclose in few syllables the essence, the identity of a people but at the same time we intend to expand our investigation in order to encompass more cultures and illustrate their diversity. The aim is to obtain a comparative framework, Italian - Romanian - English, of anthroponyms to be found in proverbs pertaining to the aforementioned cultures.
