Life styles and stress experience: an empirical contribution to the Social Representations Theory

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this research is to discover how informative, cognitive and affective dimensions of symbolic constructions work relatively to the stress phenomena. In other words, how a group of twenties represents stress. The theoretical framework is that of Social Representation, the disciplinary field is the one of Health Psychology. The sample is made of 65 subjects (M = 30; F = 35, age group: 10-12 years), attending the first class of an Italian half-grade school in Naples. Qualitative techniques has been employed. A mixed technique of drawing and questionnaire has been used in order to investigate iconic aspects and the perception of the stress. The data have been processed through content analysis. Implications of the findings are analyzed and discussed.
