Summary/Abstract: The name of the poet is Maymun ibn Qays. His nick name is Abu Basir and he is known as well as Al-A’sha because he suffered of night blindness. His date of birth is unknown but it is recorded that he died in 629, AD, three years before our Prophet’s death in a small place Menfuha where he was born. Today, it is one of south areas in the south part of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. According to many experts Al-A’sha belongs to the firs category of pre-Islamic poets. Qurashi and Ibn Khaldun believe that he is the author of one of eight golden pagan odes. He sang and because of that he was named Arabic cymbalist. He travelled almost entire Arabia earning his living by singing songs. He experienced the appearance of Islam, but he did not accept it. This ode dedicated to Muhammad, p.b.u.h. he wrote with the intention to recite it in front of the Messenger in Medina, as Kab ibn Zuhayr did, and to legalise his conversion to Islam, but his death prevented him from doing that. The ode, after his death, continued to be recited and transferred from generation to generation until it was recorded in his Divan, a collection of poetry, which many times has been published in the Arabic world and Europe.
