Summary/Abstract: The article reviews the literature in order to identify the factors that may determine thewillingness of employees and their involvement in sharing knowledge with colleagues. The motivesresulting from the employee’s personality traits, organization-dependent stimuli as well as thecharacteristics of the knowledge itself, which may determine the level of the employee’s readinessto share it, were taken into account.Then, using the necessary conditions analysis (NCA), it was determined whether the group ofpotential determinants of the willingness to exchange knowledge included elements necessary forthe occurrence of a high and very high level of employees’ willingness to share knowledge.In 14 cases (out of the 32 examined) the results of the analysis indicated the existence of thecondition effect, but taking into account the adopted size assessment scale, this effect was rathersmall, and in one case it was medium. However, it is important that all factors with the value of theeffect of the necessary condition >= 0.188 were included in the group of factors indicated by othermethods as those with a large impact on the level of employees’ willingness to share knowledge.Such factors include the employee’s natural readiness to transfer their knowledge, openness to newexperiences, employees’ optimism and their belief that they have knowledge of great value. At thesame time, the study allowed for the presentation of the application of the necessary conditions’method to analyse issues in the area of human resources management, which in this article was thesearch for factors necessary for the occurrence of a high level of employees’ willingness to shareknowledge.
