Summary/Abstract: This article aims at investigating the processes that can trigger plagiarism and the mistakes which can lead to this illicit act. An important section of the article analyzes the causes of plagiarism and the reasons underlying it. The article also exemplifies several situations in which authors of scientific papers are prone to mistakes when it comes to citing their sources properly. In the process of scientific writing and creation of original work, knowing all the rules of citation, depending on the citation style, is a key element of a thorough research, especially for young researchers.
