Summary/Abstract: The primary idea of this paper is to perceive the puritanism in all the complexity of its signification. The paper has three parts: in the first part the aim was to discuss the history and terminology of puritanism: the second part is about the beliefs of puritans and in the third part I want to repeat the famous thesis, in the spirit of Max Weber, how strong the puritans’ influence on the development of modern capitalistic society was, above all, through the consideration of an idea of calling and through the example of the United States of America.
