Religious Teachers Before the New Social and Cultural Challenges

Summary/Abstract: We live in a post-secular world in which spiritual, social, and cultural phenomena are acquiring new meanings. As such, they pose a serious and complex challenge for religious educators. In this paper, I will focus on the three - in my opinion - most important ones: a new mindset with pronounced individuality, a new concept of religion, and finally, modern esoteric spirituality. These challenges contribute to a crisis of spiritual and social authority, i.e., relativize the traditional concept of religious up-bringing and education, and call for new educational (theological) and pedagogical-didactic methods in teaching.
