Summary/Abstract: In the first part of this article, we will discuss the importance of membership in the United Nations for each country, as well as the main goals of the UN. Then we will point out the support that the Republic of Austria, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations, provided to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period from 1991 to 1992 in gaining full membership in the UN. In this article, we will present the most important documents, as well as transcripts from the sessions of the United Nations bodies, where the membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in this Organisation was decided. It is important to note that this article will also mention the testimonies of the then officials of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.In addition to the membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the United Nations, in this article we will also analyse the attitudes of the Republic of Austria vis-à-vis the membership of other former Yugoslav republics in the UN. It is also one of the intentions of this article to show the complex international relations from the period of the dissolution of the former SFRY and the international legal recognition of its former republics.The aim of this article is to show how the Republic of Austria, adhering to international legal principles, provided support for the admission of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the membership of the United Nations.
