120 YEARS OF JEWELRY COLLECTION IN THE ЕTHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM IN BELGRADE

Summary/Abstract: This year, the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade marks 120 years of independent existence. Therefore in this paper I chose to present the development of the Jewelry Collection in this long period, from the perspective of the caretaker of this collection. The Collection was originally formed in the Ethnographic Department of the National Museum and later transferred to the newly-formed Ethnographic Museum. This paper presents the most important periods in the development of the Collection, its caretakers and handlers, as well as the results of research on the topic of jewelry and decoration. The recognized shortcomings in the research and replenishment of the fund will be addressed, and a vision of the direction the further development of the Collection should go will be presented.
