Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the ways in which education contributes in solving conflicts and contrasts of the 21st century. It tackles two main conflicts in contemporary society. First, the conflict between global and local, where there is a need for a person to be a citizen of the world but at the same time to conserve his or her national identity. Second, the universal versus individual, which is manifested by accepting the process of globalization while keeping one’s own personal identity. This preservation of personal identity is realized through preservation of national cultural identity and recognition of the need to conform to the modern age and to modern relations within the global society, a society that requires a unique and singular cultural space and planetary culture. Religion, as part of humanity's spiritual and cultural heritage and an influential factor in modern society, influences both the social, cultural, political processes and also the lives, attitudes and activities of people. Sociological theory suggests that when the social factors that have the task to maintain social integration weaken, it creates an opportunity for religion to fill in the vacant space and to play an integral role. Therefore, it is interesting that religious values are becoming an important segment of pluralistic values that characterize modern society.
