Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the analysis and influence of Ferdinand de Saussure’s capital work Course in General Linguistics on the development of linguistics. Language as a means of communication between people is actually a basic feature of every society. A person is determined by language, individually, socially and culturally as a member of a certain social community. Language and language problems occupied many philosophers, and the 20th century was marked by the philosophy of language and the linguistic movement in the philosophy of language. The philosophy of language as well as linguistics, have a common purpose of researching language, and that is so that they are addressed to each other. Structuralism is certainly the most dominant direction in linguistics in the 20th century, and its most significant representative is Ferdinand de Saussure. The aim of the paper is to present the contribution of the work Course in General Linguistics to language research, which is reflected in the fact that it breaks down linguistic activity into language and speech and introduces the social role of language into the research. Thus, language has been viewed as a system of elements that are related.
