Summary/Abstract: Analysing the degradation of the environment via the cultural instruments of artistic movements, practices and works with social impact, the article presents a series of nodal theoretical points, as they appear in artistic practices, questioning the relationship between artist and nature, visual art and nature, the birth of a new field. This new field cultivating social criticism via art is named “eco-art”. In fact, eco-art is an interdisciplinary domain emerging through the collaboration among art, science and technology, cultivating the analysis of artistic proposals that aim to respond, to activate the social need for involvement in the conservation and protection of the natural environment, as well as the way in which these types of visual art sensitize, communicate with the public.
