Summary/Abstract: Human rights are an essential aspect of the modern society in which we live, a result of a long history that has gone through several stages, from the most remote times to the present day. Among these rights is the right to speech, which is considered one of the most fundamental and vital rights of the individual. The right to speech involves the freedom of expression and to convey opinions, thoughts, information and ideas through speech or writing. This right is protected by various international documents, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which enshrines the right to freedom of expression in Article 19 and in art. 11 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
