Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to depict the character of Bishop Maksim Branković in comparison to his image in the folk poems collected by Vuk Stefanović Karadžić. This eminent person left numerous doubts in history related to his private and his socio-political life. All historical facts have been reconsidered in this paper, as well as the data from Prolos hagiography, although our primary intention was to point at the significant place which this medieval character occupies in Serbian folk art.
