Summary/Abstract: In recent years the retail payment market has changed remarkably. Nowadays the bank’s sustainable development and the increase of its competitiveness are indissolubly connected with payment innovations. Using them in the process of gaining competitive advantage is impossible without customers’ acceptance. The consumers’ satisfaction, including the fulfillment of their current and future needs, has become the key factor of bank’s market success. A new business model also requires the identification of bank’s strategic resources and its innovative potential. The paper presents payments’ innovations, their role in the process of gaining bank’s competitive advantage and some bank’s market strategies strengthening their position on the payment market.
