Contemporary urban trends in Szczecin on the example of restaurant names

Summary/Abstract: The research task was to trace the names of Szczecin restaurants existing in 2020–2022. The aim of the study was to show which naming tendencies exist in the contemporary urban names of Szczecin. The gathered onymic collection was subjected to semantic and formal analysis. On the basis of the study of the names of selected restaurants in Szczecin, it can be concluded that two opposing linguistic tendencies clash in the contemporary urban naming of Szczecin: 1. striving to revert to native names and 2. adopting foreign names. The onyms created in this way create a semantically and structurally heterogeneous collection of urbanonyms.
