Summary/Abstract: German signs in the urban space of Wrocław and Toruń have become an object of interest for local activists. The research problem addressed in the article is the demands of the people involved in this issue, their experiences, the motivations behind their activities, the demands for the preservation of this form of cultural heritage, and the public perception of the activities according to the activists themselves. Representatives of analogous initiatives were interviewed: Spod tynku patrzy Breslau [Breslau looks on from underneath the plaster] (Wrocław) and Literołap [Letter-catcher] (Toruń). The interviews were then subjected to theoretical reflection from the perspective of memory studies. It emerged from both that activism centred around inscriptions within urban space stems from one’s own interests and meets with a positive response from the local community, while the reach is limited to history and heritage enthusiasts, resulting in being stuck in an information bubble.
