Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we will attempt to observe the changes that happened to the city during one century, using the images that have been left by Simo Matavulj and Mihajlo Pantić. Analyzing the verve of the heroes, with a specific emphasis on their actions, we will show the phenomena which have affected the consciousness of the people as a result of the evolution of the city. Using theoretic texts about the city, its characteristics and metamorphoses through history, we will show how a human in a city from the beginning of the 20th century is an active participant in its development, and the one from the end of the century is a passive and often depressed observer.
