Summary/Abstract: Pueblos Magicos (PPM) is a program used for tourism promotion in Mexico that is focused on the country’s cultural and natural richness. Such a development impulse ought to increase the tourist offer and, consequently, employment in the services that support tourism. Using a synthetic indicator, the study did a dynamic analysis of changes in employment levels in tourism-related services and the number of businesses for towns admitted to the program throughout its early stages of operation. The analysis done for the paper shows that the increase in employment in the tourism sector has not been considerably impacted by this initiative. However, if the Pueblos Mágicos verification is done correctly and the program is running, it might play a big part in boosting tourism.
