Summary/Abstract: The subject of our research is Cveta Mazneova, a famous interpreter of folk songs from the village of Leško, Gorna Džumaja. The main sources for her are her sons Anton and Hristo Pop Stoilov. Anton wrote 150 songs, of which only a small part has been published. As for the versification, in her chants eight and ten syllable lines dominate. The compositional tightness of Mazneova’s songs shows us that she was an experienced singer, with a built style, who paid more attention to rhythm rather than to the extension of poetic and storytelling motifs. Despite the large plots and the possibilities that folk poetry offered through the large number of variants of one motif, Mazneova’s interpretations are creatively inspired, light, singable and rhythmically organized.
