FEMALE EDUCATION IN PRILEP IN XIX CENTURY

Summary/Abstract: The development of the Macedonian female education began with the opening of the first female school in Prilep by the teacher Nedela Petkova in 1865. The request of Prilep municipality for educating girls in order to gain knowledge contributed to the formation of a center of the female education in Macedonia. After Nedela Petkova left the town, after a severalyear closedown of its work, the school was re-opened again in 1870. Since then it worked continuously until the Balkan Wars. The number of girls who learned in the female school in Prilep was constantly increasing. Some of the most outstanding teacher in the XIX century were Sava Palasheva, Evgenia Janculeva, Cvetanka Senokozlieva etc.
