Summary/Abstract: The article analyses examples of Biblical travesties from Polish, Russian and Ukrainianpress texts (Bezbożnik Wojujący, Głos Młodzieży, Bezbozhnik and Bezvirnyk). Thesesources were official USSR media and their main goal was to spread communist andatheist propaganda, mainly among national minorities. Biblical travesties were partof Soviet propaganda which propagated an irrational, nonsensical and unscientific imageof religion. Texts like this deprecated and ridiculed the Bible and religious dogmas usingirony, a colloquial style, and disrespectful forms. The research method of the study is basedon Kamińska-Szmaj’s definition of propaganda and Bachtin’s and Zherebin’s definitionsof culture of popular laughter. The article is the first attempt at comparative analysisof Polish, Russian and Ukrainian Soviet anti-religious press sources.
