Summary/Abstract: The main objective of the article is to determine the different levels of socioeconomic development in the “bagel municipalities” arrangement. The spatial scope of the study concerns the Wielkopolskie voivodeship. The time span covers 2011 and 2021. The research procedure aimed at achieving the main objective of the work consists of three stages. In the first stage, the socio-economic characteristics of the “bagel municipalities” in the Wielkopolskie voivodeship were identified. The second stage of the study focused on the differences and similarities in socio-economic development between these municipalities and the cities that are the seats of these municipalities in terms of the categories adopted for the study: (1) population, (2) economy, (3) social infrastructure, (4) technical infrastructure and housing, and (5) human and social capital. To this end, the Perkal (Ws) synthetic indicator was used, calculated separately for the set of rural and urban communes in the examined voivodeship. This made it possible to present the position of the analysed units against the communes of a specific type. In the final, third stage, conclusions were drawn based on the comparative analysis presented in the study, and a discussion on the issue under consideration ensued. The research indicates that the main differences between a “bagel municipality” and cities include: (a) a greater internal spread of Perkal’s synthetic indicator (Ws) in terms of the development categories adopted for the study in the “bagel municipalities” than in the cities; (b) the increase in the overall value of the Perkal synthetic indicator (Ws) was greater in the “bagel municipalities” than in the cities; (c) greater changes in the position on the scale of socio-economic development in the “bagel municipalities” than of cities; (d) moderate correlation between overall socio-economic development and the human capital category in “bagel municipalities”, and a weak correlation in cities; (e) poor interdependence between overall socio-economic development and the economy category in “bagel municipalities”, and average interdependence in cities, and (f) the level of development in the “bagel municipalities” relatively higher in terms of population than in cities, and lower in terms of the other categories. In contrast, the main similarities between a “bagel municipality” and cities include: (a) a similar spread of the overall Perkal synthetic indicator (Ws) value; (b) the tendency towards an increase in the overall value of the Perkal synthetic indicator (Ws); (c) the tendency to change position on the scale of the level of socio-economic development; (d) moderate correlation between overall socioeconomic development and the infrastructure and housing as well as population categories; and (e) poor interdependence between overall socio-economic development and the social infrastructure category.
