Summary/Abstract: The main aim of the article is to determine the level of socio-economic development of thebagel systems of small towns. The spatial scope of the study concerns selected urban municipalities(towns with up to 20,000 inhabitants) and their rural counterparts (bagel municipalities) located inthe Greater Poland Voivodeship, namely: Chodzież, Czarnków, Obrzycko, Słupca, and Złotów. Thetemporal scope, on the other hand, covers the years 2011 and 2021. The research process, aimed atachieving the main objective of the study, consists of four stages. In the first stage, a literature reviewwas conducted regarding municipalities that are part of bagel systems. The second stage of the studypresents the location and characteristics of bagel systems of small towns in the Greater Poland Vo-ivodeship. In the main, third stage, the research results on the demographic and economic situationand the level of socio-economic development in a comprehensive approach are discussed, along withdescriptive statistics of a typical municipality in the studied bagel systems. The final, fourth stage ofthe study presents conclusions and initiates a discussion related to the functioning of bagel munici-palities around small towns. The conducted analysis has shown that the bagel systems of small townsin the Greater Poland Voivodeship are characterized by a varied level of socio-economic development, which is confirmed by the value of the calculated synthetic Perkal indicator (Ws). In 2021, comparedto 2011, bagel municipalities recorded an average greater increase in the value of this indicator thansmall towns. This led to changes in their positions on the scale of socio-economic development andin their affiliation with specific classes of development in the examined voivodeship. The most signi-ficant transformations in this regard occurred in the bagel municipalities of Słupca and Chodzież.Conversely, unfavorable changes were noted in the small towns of Chodzież and Słupca.
