Summary/Abstract: Biographical study follows the life and career of gendarme officer Václav Řezáč (1859– 1945), gendarmerie commander in Bohemia during the late period of monarchy and his transition to service the new Czechoslovak Republic. By his personal contribution has managed to shape the gendarmerie as one of the pillars of the new state.
