Summary/Abstract: The article presents the issues of the film portrait as an element of the construction of the film work and the creation of the protagonist. Subsequent fields of art in which the portrait develops offer new means and possibilities of telling about the character (protagonist). A strong element creating the construct of a film work is a portrait, both in a formal and psychological dimension. The undertaken research combines the analysis of the film portrait with the contemporary genre tendency in cinematography, which is comic and superhero cinema. Jan Komasa created a modern, eclectic image of historical events in the film Warsaw 44 about the Warsaw Uprising, combining the convention of superhero films with a historical story that recreates the authentic events of World War II. By analyzing elements of visual arts (e.g. composition, colors, perspective, relations of light and shadow) and film elements (such as music and sound, movement, editing and the use of special effects), it was possible to show inspiration from superhero cinema and indicate the possibilities of a portrait in reflecting the mental and physical characteristics of the heroes.
