Summary/Abstract: The article draws attention to the possibilities of using textbook texts in Swedish as a foreign language. The qualitative analysis of the Mitt and Mål textbook for students at the intermediate level allows us to determine the usefulness of the texts and the accompany- ing tasks for the development of intercultural communicative competence. In the empirical part, the cultural content of the texts is examined as well as the ways, in which students are encouraged to interact. The interaction should result in strengthening skills desired in inter- cultural training. The results of the analysis show which areas of private and professional life, in the opinion of the authors of the handbook, hide the potential for misunderstanding during contacts with the inhabitants of Sweden.
