Summary/Abstract: Metropolitan Visarion Puiu was also a humble servant of the Orthodox Church, a bright face over whom unfair oblivion has fallen. Leading hierarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, accomplished scholar, founder of churches, monasteries, church schools, preacher and organizer of monastic life, these are just a few coordinates of the metropolitan’s life and ecclesiastical activity. However, we should also highlight the exemplary ecclesiastical work of Metropolitan Visarion Puiu, his impeccable moral stature, his deep involvement in the social life of the country, his thorough knowledge of the problems Romanians were struggling with in the world political context, his wisdom to fore-shadow the future and the huge effort to to serve his people, even at the cost of his life and personal unhappiness.
