Summary/Abstract: Franz Fühmann, who considered translating poetry a full‑fledged part of his creative work, translated a considerable number of Czech poems into German. A rough overview is given of whose poems he translated and how his view of Czech poetry changed over the years; on what basis these translations were made; what stones had to be removed for the publication of the anthology Die Glastrane (1964) and of Nezval’s Auf Trapezen (1978). Finally, using three poems as examples, various aspects of his approach are examined in more detail, which led to his translations actually being poetic entities in German.
