Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analysis of current legal provisions relating to the activities of experts and appraisers regarding the authenticity of works of art, including provisions regulating criminal liability for the correctness of opinions issued. The author considers whether and to what extent these regulations can affect the quality of issued expert opinions, and thus the correctness of court decisions in cases involving works of art and the limitation of the pathological phenomenon of flooding the art market with fakes.
