Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the important social problem of increasing xenophobic attitudes toward immigrants in many European countries. One of the ways in which xenophobic attitudes are expressed may be the declared social distance. In this context, an analysis of selected determinants of social distance towards immigrants in a small Central European society such as the Czech Republic was undertaken. Within the framework of the analysis, several models were proposed, which showed different impacts of selected factors on the declarations of social distance. Among other things, the study showed that an important mechanism generating the influence of selected factors on the declaration of social distance is the feeling of threat.
