Saint Nicetas, an important and courageous bishop of Trier

Summary/Abstract: In the early Christian centuries, many individuals with a holy life ascended to the seat of the bishopric of Trier, which is why it is not surprising that many of them are honored today as saints, both in the Orthodox Church and in the Catholic Church. One of these individuals was Saint Nicetas, who became bishop of Trier one year before Saint Emperor Justinian ascended to the Byzantine throne (527-565). At that time, Trier, a former imperial seat, was in a deplorable state. Bishop Nicetas distinguished himself for the restoration of the cathedral and other churches in Trier, but especially for his fight on behalf of the poor, sick and needy. He is commemorated every year on October 3rd in the Orthodox Church and on October 1st in the Catholic Church.
