Summary/Abstract: This qualitative research aims to determine the professional development needs of science teachers and evaluate existing professional development programs in Mersin province. The contemporary understanding of education emphasizes the continuous development of teachers, and at this point, the importance of effective professional development programs designed in line with the needs of teachers increases. The research was conducted on 30 science teachers working in Mersin. In-depth interviews and analyzes with participants provided detailed insights into the instructional challenges teachers face, areas for development, suitability of existing programs, support resources, professional development expectations, and benefits derived from the programs. The findings reveal that teachers have distinct needs in subjects such as student motivation, knowledge and skills in the STEM field, the need to deepen existing programs, interactive workshops, student-centered learning, and technology integration. It also shows that existing programs have a generally positive perception, but can be improved on more specific issues. This research makes an important contribution to understanding the professional development needs of science teachers in Mersin and their thoughts on current programs. The findings can be used to identify regional teacher needs, optimize professional development programs and contribute to teachers' professional growth processes.
