“The Messenger of Fidelity“. The theme of longing in the music of German Romanticism

Summary/Abstract: Emotions belong to the most elementary area of the human psyche. The paradox associated with them is that on the one hand, they create a ground connecting the human species with the world of animals. On the other hand, emotionalization and affective narratives are present in extremely sublime products of culture. This article begins with a short theoretical introduction, then moves on to an attempt to show the diachronic affective potential of longing as a feeling that significantly influenced the character of the music of the Romantic era.
