Summary/Abstract: The persecution of the Assumptionist Fathers under the Romanian communist regime is an exemplary case illustrating the mechanisms of totalitarianism. From the study of the archives of the Securitate, the physionomy of the modus operandi of its repressive apparatus is studied. It shows that it could only create artificial forms of control and life without capturing the attention and support of populations, especially those who were capable of spiritual resistance.
